 >> WoW Ues Nostromo N52

Didn't know where to post this question, figured I'd try here.

I just got my N52 and I know there are a lot of you who have said you use one. I was just wondering how you have your keys set up? I haven't had a ton of time to sit down and set it up, but for the while I did, I was kind of overwhelmed. I searched for some profiles so I could get an idea, but I came out empty handed.
So how is your N52 set up? Any advice for a first time user?
I use my N52 along with Bartender (look in wowace for the add-on). I arranged a bank of buttons in the exact same layout as the N52. Here is a very old image of basically what my UI looks like: http://www.aaronland.org/wowui/normalui.jpg. The right set of buttons I use with mouse clicks.

I set each button on the N52 to a number or other characters (1 through 10, -, =, [, ]). Then in the WoW key binding, set the Bartender buttons accordingly.

I then set two of the thumb buttons to shift and alt, which lets Bartender switch that bank of buttons to a completely different set.
I don't have mine in front of me, but i hope this makes sense.

I kept my movement keys on the keys as they are since i was used to WASD. Tab is also on the top left, with Alt underneath. That keeps that area similar to a keyboard and what i was used to.

On the Dpad nintendo looking one, i put my 1,2,3,4 spells which correspond to my spell rotation i use most. The large bottom thumb one i put shadow bolt, Alt with this one is drain life. jump is the orange one.

Then in WOW interface i put my secondary damage spells bound to alt and number and have that row above the first on my screen. I tried to keep it so that if i'm using one i won't use the other, so if my main rotation is Curse of Agony on #1, Curse of Tongues is Alt#1, Corruption is #2, SoC is alt #2, Immolate is #3, searing pain is alt #3 etc..I go around the Dpad and when i end up straight up, Alt and up is Lifetap. 1,2,3,4 spell rotation, alt 4 Life Tap, hit big thumb pad for 1 or 2 shadow bolts and alt big thumb pad to drain life back up.

Fear, DC and HoT run down the right side next to movement. Trinkets and shadowburn are on the bottom row.

If i needed more i would make the bottom left key Ctrl for a 3rd set.

With the above i caught on to this very quickly. Oh i also put pet actions on my mouse buttons, so he/she is right hand and i am left hand.

Thanks for the advice!
I am still getting used to my N52 (I've been a clicker since beta... tough change!). I really like it, just gotta give it some time to get used to it.

what is Nostromo N52 ?

Nostromo N52 and a Review

I use the D-Pad for DOTs as I use them while running/turning etc.. The Big Thumb button is for Deathcoil...
The keys around movement are spells that require standing still. Other instant spells are on my MX518 mouse (lots of buttons!).

I recently bought the N52 myself after reading about it on these forums and have had the same problems as Maiko. My first week impression is it suxs... my second week impression is.... it still suxs. With my keyboard and mouse setup I use my WASD keys for movement then I use the numpad keys for spells and the mouse for long distance movement and to loot but since i play PVP mostly then I dont have to use the mouse that much so it is gonna take some time for me to use this thing. Glad I got it online and it only cost me 21 bux.. i can stomach putting 21 bux in the closet but 45 bux is kinda hard and I would keep trying it for sure. Not to say I am going to stop using it but if i do then it will be ok. I just wont use it on my daily Battleground..
Good luck with the N52 Maiko.

Since there is no left-handed version of the N52, I use a Zboard Fang, which is lefthand-friendly. It works fine for me, but I wish I could compare it to the N52.

Yea, a very hard transition to go from clicking to the N52. Not to mention I just dingd 70 and since I powerlvld myself, I am still learning how to play. I can read on these forums all day, but I need the real experience to be any good. So, I am still working on it. I tried using the Dpad for movement, but it's really jerky. I might try going back to WASD and doing like neej, with the DoTs on the Dpad. We shall see! It's so awesome that I want to make it work!
I've been using my N52 for so long the lettering has worn off my keys!

While my setup isn't very complex, it does afford me a lot of flexibility in-game.

I use the stock WASD setup on it for movement. The three buttons on the far left are shift-1 through shift-3. The bottom row of three buttons are shift-4 through shift-6. The shift buttons are commonly used for my healthstone macro, pots, and (more recently) bombing run quest items.

The button to the right of the "d" button is my tab for targetting, and the button above it is my ventrillo chat button.

The red thumb button is usually bound to pet attack. I use the stock spacebar button for jumping and the little dpad is used as a combination alt / jump / sit button (useful when on a flying mount). Yes, I have alt-tabbed out of game accidentally using the dpad and my tab key, but I use the alt button so much that I live with it.

As far as my spells go, those are all bound to my keyboards numpad. I use every numpad button except the Enter and Num Lock keys. The numpad remaps to another set of spells when alt is down, giving me 30 total keybinds that dont require me to take my hands off the numpad.

So my left hand is on the nostromo controlling movement and my various "oh crap" buttons, while my right hand hotkeys all my spells.

My mouns is only used for camera positioning and spells like Rain of Fire. In fact, I have a five button mouse and one of the extra side buttons is bound to RoF for ease of use.

I have been using my N52 for over a year and recently bought the N52te (not much of a difference IMO...don't rush to buy one).

I initially bought the keypad to increase my TPS as a warrior tank, and it worked perfectly. I now use it as affliction spec and its more fun that ever. Here is my setup:

EDIT: I just wanted to add that i can see a real benefit to this item when raid tanking on my warrior. As the warlock it helps me DoT efficiently and i never find myself looking for a key because its so comfortable and easy; increasing my overall DPS during longer fights.

I just got a N52Te for my bday (love when the wife gets me what I really want)... and I have to say..wow.
It's going to take a bit of time getting used to it, but already I can see its going to make my life alot easier. Specially since I am a clicker..and used my mouse to move.

Thanks to this post...I am now going to see about setting it up like you guys.

I've been thinking about upgrading my N52 to the N52te, but from what I've seen on the internet it looks like the software is so awfully bad that, for now, I'm sticking with my old model.

I noticed a couple of community memebers here bought the N52te. Can you tell me if you had any difficulties setting it up, and in particular I'd love to know you experience with creating simple macro commands (like shift-1 as one button)?

Problems setting it up? nah.. install the drivers, reboot, and plug it in.

As for setting it up. Open the editor, and volia..including a nice menu for macros. So far it seems a breeze to set up. The one thing I love about the TE editon, is that it is powered by Razer, which means the responce time for the buttons is now faster. Plus it glows blue, which matches my Razer DeathAder gaming mouse.

I put a N52te on my Amazon wish list while pondering.. Will this help me in any way or do I just want a new toy?

Either answer is perfectly acceptable, of course

The problem with the Mac is that there are no keyboard replacements that offer a load of programmable keys, so this would go a long way to rectifying that particular problem.

I'm still thinking about it...

Basically after playing around with the newest version, it offers one thing, and one thing only:
Ergonomy. So if you're find having to move your hand ~15cm to be able to type text to other players, this can greatly decrease the strain on your wrist of the left hand. Gel-pad + good mouse, or Logitech Trackman Optical for the mousehand, and you got a quite good setup from a health-perspective.

However beyond the ergonomy I found it lacking, which was "meh" considering the price. It doesn't really do anything a conventional Logitech Media Elite keyboard can't do, an that costs ~25€.

Anybody else who has a N52te have a thumb "space" button thats sticky as hell? I thinkIi have read a user post saying they had issues... wondering if its poor model design (over my friends that is just n52) or if i got a bad one.

I have been using Nostromo for... 2 years now. It is beyond fantastic.

There is a trick though: in order to make it useful you have to configure it right and configure your mouse right.

The main thing on the N52/Nte is to use the D-pad to move. Particularly Foreward, Backward, Straff Left and Straff Right. You don't need Left and Right because that's what your mouse is for. Oh, and don't put Forward as "Up" on the D-Pad, put it as "Right" (which is actually the most forward part of the D-Pad).

Get a mouse with a scrollbar and sidebuttons. Put auto run and jump on side buttons and put "next target" and "prev target" on the scrollwheel and put "target self" as the scroll wheel press.

Right mouse button is to turn. Left to click.
On the N52/Nte, you only need two main keys: one key for Ventrillo push to talk (I use far bottom right key) and one key as ALT (I use key 6, far left in the middle). All the other keys you set to spells. Oh, and a tip: use the "spacebar" (thumb button) for mounting and alt+thumbbar for your flying mount. Use the circle button above the D-pad for OH SHIT GOTTA SOULSHATTER.

DO NOT USE THE KEYS TO MOVE. BY MOVING WITH THE MOUSE AND THE D-PAD YOU FREE UP 4 FINGERS FOR SPELLS AND SOMETHING LIKE 24 DIFFERENT KEYS USING ALT.

I used the N52 for PvP long before I started raiding and there is simply no quicker or better way to play WOW. The only things I have to click are things like pots, HS, Will of the Forsaken, Shadow Ward, etc. (all the protective instant casts)
