How is everyone finding DK's for lvl 80 pvp? I've stuck to just leveling them till now but am looking to switch over to just PvP testing later this week. What I'm curious about is.
What specs are you tending to favor as well as what glyphs are you using in associtation with your spec?
Which horde race are you favoring for PvP and why (I'm thinking Orc for dps or Belf for anti caster)?
Are you finding that you generate runic power fast enough to hold your own?
Are you hitting as hard as mages? rogues, feral druids and warriors? with your burst?
Are you going for fast kills? or setting up your opponets for full runic power combos?
Which classes are you finding hardest to fight and for what reason?
Which classes are you finding easiest to kill? Also what race is your toon?
With what I've learned PvE leveling and the above in mind I was going to start with a blood (51) / Frost (20) setup for a few days before switching to an unholy or frost heavy setup. Any suggestions of comments you all can throw me for BG / Arena lvl 80 play would be appreciated!
Hoo Hah,
Mauddib
PS: 80 DK on murmur looking for an arena 2, 3 and 5's team for testing. My name on Murmur is also ... Mauddib
I've tried all three trees in PVP and I enjoy blood the most. Full improved Rune Tap provides a great heal, and between Hysteria and Dancing Runeblade you have awesome burst damage potential. Also blood seems to be the easiest to maintain a consistant rotation.
Blood is definitely the easiest rotation to maintain in pvp, however it really lacks some of the utility that frost and unholy are capable of in terms of locking down a target or controlling attackers/runners.
I've been doing deep frost for most builds, and I'm really please with how well frost does in larger bracket games. HC is a short-cooldown ability that really forces other players to burn a trinket on demand, leaving your allies plenty of opportunity to use more spammable CC. Frost aura has yet to really prove itself in terms of defensive power, so I usually ditch the aura in favor of chillblains or 4/5 bladed armor in blood.
hmmm Zeckk sounds like your playing a more defensive roll with relying on HC. As a rogue player for 3 years I tend to favor being in my opponents grill 24/7 so I automaticly lean towards a spec that favors that.
Also ... how would you feel about your interupt / lock down potential if you were Belf?
Lastly Hows the frost strike burst working for yeah? Ive been wondering about how spamable it is?
***************************
what I was thinking ...
Blood (54 points)
2/2 Butchery
3/3 Subversion
5/5 Blade Barrier
3/3 Scent of Blood
2/2 Two-Handed Weapon Specialization
1/1 Rune Tap
5/5 Dark Conviction
3/3 Improved Rune Tap
3/3 Bloody Strikes
3/3 Veteran of the Third War
3/3 Bloody Vengeance
1/2 Abomination's Might
3/3 Bloodworms
1/1 Hysteria
5/5 Sudden Doom
1/1 Vampiric Blood
1/1 Heart Strike
3/3 Might of Mograine
5/5 Blood Gorged
1/1 Dancing Rune Weapon
Frost (17 points)
3/3 Improved Icy Touch
5/5 Toughness
2/2 Icy Reach
3/5 Icy Talons
1/1 Lichborne
3/3 Annihilation
Unholy (0 points)
None
Though I'm wondering how DRW will hold up if at all sinice its a non-controllable pet.
I also play blood for PvP. But the problem I see with your build is talent points into the wrong talents. Scent of Blood and blood worms are not worth putting points into if your going to PvP. I have no problem with gaining runic power. I would ditch Scent of Blood an Blood Worms. Something that I would pick up is Bladed Armor, Mark of Blood and Death Rune Mastery. I feel that Death Rune Mastery is a MUST in PvP. You really should not worry about an leveling spec what so ever. You might find it better to PvP if you level with your PvP spec.
Thanks for the advice...
I was thinking I needed bladded armor and was wondering how important the death runes were. Currently I have both in my PvE spec but wan't sure how they would translate to PvP.
interesting ...
which "glyths" are you using with your blood spec?
I was going to go with
Glyph of Obliterate
Glyph of Death Strike
and
Glyph of Death and Decay
Looking at the following spec now... dropped the worms and scent ad added death runes, mark and 2pt in bladded ) I may switch 2 or 3 pts out of barrier for more in bladded.

Oiii,
Mauddib
do NOT go blood for pvp if you are actually looking to succeed.
18 points in for improved rune tap is as far as you will want to go as the other 2 trees (frost or unholy) offer vastly greater benefits to the pvper.
Frost was the one I enjoyed a ton personally. It offered the greatest on target time becasue of the fact that chains also provides frost fever so I use chains almost exclusively in PvP over icy touch. Frost Aura + accimilation gives you excellent resists to help you resist those annoying snares / roots or to mitigate a large chunk of that dmg while under those effects to give you the time you need to use rune tap to heal back up adn get back on top of your opponent. Frost also withotu question has the best and consistant on demand burst of the 3 trees.
Blood is just so lackluster its sad... a lack of a reliable snare (desecration or chains for frost / unholy) almost exclusve physical dmg (not as good for pvp as frosts or unholys elemental based attacks which do more damage due ot the fact that targets have higher ACs) and lack of any utilities or on demand reliable burst.... DRW is inferior in pvp to gargoyle in pretty much every fashion and is a 51 pt investment vs the 21 pt investment of gargoyle.
Really there is NO reason to go blood over frost or unholy currently for a pvp setting
I love Blood but it has no burst
Still see no point in doing so.
Lets compare what blood can do....
You have NO reliable snare to keep up unless you use chains in which case youw ill nto have frost fever up.... your biggest hitter heart strike still doesn't hit nearly as hard as the FU abilities of the other 2 trees and on demand burst isa lot more limited.
Frost I can burst at all tiems with just dumping RP on frost strike... that thing hits HARD on top of my already hard hitting howling blasts which is a ranged aoe... or if i was in melee range I can just ollibterate with well over 50%+ crit chance due to talents... Hell I even have an aoe CC as frost and a guaranteed big crit on demand with death chill...
If you are wanting to play an offensive orietned DK there is no question frost is the tree of choice to do so. Blood is too outlastish playing and even in that regard Unholy does it better.
I don't really get why u insist on saying FROST is the best pvp spec ...... maybe u think that because thats the spec u enjoy the most i personally love blood and no matter what i would pvp as blood because i like the play style can't really stand when everyone thinks they should be pigeon holed into the same pvp spec
All I said is frost AND unholy have MUCH better tools for PvP.
No way you can argue this really.... 2s espeically pretty much its unholy or go home currently. I dont mind as I like both styles (prefer frost but I do like the microing of unholy's pets)
going blood is only gimping yourself but hey if that is what you want to do by all means.
Blood reallly needs a revamp in playstyle as right now its incredibly dumbed down and boring compared to the otehr two specs. It lacks any form of microing or any style or flare that comes with the other two specs... It is just a brute tree with a few gimmick self healing abilities that are all pretty low tier adn easilly accessible by the other two trees.
One thing I should have also added ... is the definition of PvP! I'll split PvP into 3 different types as they each have different objectives. The three types of pvp I have in mind are
BG / Wintergrasp (team has a central objective )
world PvP (the objective is to either kill the other person or escape)
and lastly Arena ( small teams in a small area focused on killing the other players )
so with the above in mind .... which spec do you think will work best in which PvP situation?
On another note
Last night I was in one of the wintergrasp battles ( horde had its arse kicked ) and playing as 52 / 19 / 0. I found blood worked well when I could catch someone one on one but given my lack of aoe and single target focus I would get owned when there were a mass of players. Other things I noticed.
One on one vs unholy DK's I won 4 out of 6 fights vs various allies (is it me or was every alliance DK on the field a female human?). Also the two fights I los tI had 60 to 70% health when we started fighting. One other thing I noticed was that ... rune tap was a huge factor in my being able to kill the other DK's solo.
And lastly rogues kicked my arse and even the rogus that I got the upperhand on coudl get away from me. This was probably due mostly to my newness / newbness when playing an 80 DK but it was a bit disheartening.
you could get an outstanding wow power leveling service here.
