So im one of those foolish people who saved up a bank full of herbs in preparation for inscription.
Now, im wondering if its even worth dropping engineering for.
What happened to the ability to enchant spells? (one enhancement per spell, etc.) I thought they were going to have that AND glyphs. I haven't heard anything about it since then.
And for profession bonuses: an extra glyph slot, shoulder enchant, and off-hand?!
The glyphs currently arn't very good, so that leaves about 1/2 an item slot (if you use a staff, no love there) and a shoulder enchant.
Should i sell my herbs and level mining again?! or try to deal with an herbalism / engineering combination?
I'm considering it. Admitedly Inscription was aimed at a new toon but its really not worthwile in the face of other professions.
Went all up to 365 ( Max it seems, instead of 375 ) in one day, and well.. I really like it, you can make those Vellums which sell for alot, 15 min CD Heartstones and Tarot cards are decent for twinks.
And the profession bonus is a MAJORly better shoulder enchant, and thats about it (for now).
Ohh and everyone asks you which Minor you made that day.. Thats not too nice,If you have 1 inscriber in your guild then thats more then enough, keep Engineering and go Mining I'd say.
Ohh and yes, Warlocks have the most lackluster glyphs in the game.
I suspect that the real shine for Inscription will be in Wrath and especially at level 80. Kind of like Jewel Crafting. As I recall, there was just enough stuff for JC that you could level with through level 60 with a few neat things here and there but nothing all that spectacular or worth while. But once you entered the Burning Crusade, Jewel Crafting stuff was everywhere. There are tons of recipes and gems in BC that the profession really shined.
My guess is that inscription will be much the same way in Wrath. It only appears to be rather lame right now because we got it early (unlike JC which we couldn't use until BC was actually out) and only have access to the mediocre leveling half of the profession. Once we hit Wrath it will take off too.
On the whole, I'm glad I went with Inscription (dropped a partially leveled Enchanting profession - which I stopped leveling once I heard about Inscription).
However, I went into the first day with a large stockpile of herbs. Which enabled me to level up to 300+ within the first 48 hours. And I was able to sell most glyphs that I made during the leveling process for a decent profit. If I had an even larger stockpile or more time to farm herbs, I could have probably cleared enough profit to buy an epic mount.
Most major glyphs have now fallen to under 5g per glyph on our server. There's still a bit of money to be made in minor glyphs, if they're rare and extremely desired. Which is good, because herb prices can now start to fall again and potions will be affordable.
However, I expect things to get a bit crazy once Wrath of the Lich King comes out and all the DKs need glyphs.
For lower-level characters, some of the BoP Inscription items can be awfully good. I don't have net at home at the moment (boo!) and the armory isn't updating properly so I don't recall the exact name of the item, but on my alt level 38 priest I have an Inscription offhand that does instant lightening damage with I think a 2 min cooldown for like 12-700. At this level, my spells normally crit around 400ish, so my offhand from Inscription can whammo a mob for 600, 700 which is MAJOR at this level. And did I mention it's instant? And can be cast when you're out of mana? (Of course...it can also do 12 damage. Amount is totally random, but it procs the higher damage numbers often enough that I really really like this offhand) Once I get my net at home back, I'll be twinking around in BGs to see how it works on players! (I'm hoping people will be saying something like, "WTF? How'd I just get nature damage from a "priest"? Why did I just die?")
Ow common, inscription is a great disappointment
The glyphs are unsell able
The only usefull thing is the shoulder enchant
The only thing you might make money of are the card decks, IF herb prices wouldn't be that stressed.
For a warlock there are only 3 more or less usefull ones if you raid, the rest is useless....
the felguard, immolate and the imp might be usefull
incinerate is missing, shadowbolt is not for a dps spec raiding lock (because fire deals more damage) and corruption is the only good minor
consider dropping it and get me something I can atleast sell the mats...
While I agree that Inscription isn't as amazing as I had initially hoped, there are still some good things about it.
Major Inscriptions themselves don't sell well but the Minor Inscriptions do. They often have very cheap mats and the actual inscription sells for 10-20g each.
The Shoulder Enchants are nice, as are some of the Off hand items.
The Cards are also pretty decent, though I haven't looked too far into them as of yet.
Also, I read that Blizzard has acknowledged that some of our Inscriptions aren't very good and has said (don't have the source atm) there are planned changes for them. The only one I can think of off hand is the Felhound inscription.
However, I'd rather they finished working on the adjustments to our class and the Soul Shard system before they looked at our glyphs.
