I leveled as Aff. I raided Kara as aff, but with badges and crafted gear my DPS was soon better as 21/40 lol-SB-spam. Now I've gone 56/0/5 trusting Fallenmans 3.0 raid build thread. (I know I need to move points out of iHoT and fell conc and into Malediction and imp CoA.)
I went to Dr. Boom to practice rotations. I have DoT timer and recount. I struggled getting 1200 dps with fel armor and nothing else (without felhunter attacking). Does that sound reasonable for my gear? Am I awful at rotations?
(I know I'm below the new hit cap, I know Dr. Boom isn't a real test, but it was a quick test for a hard number.)
rotation has been something like Shadowbolt (to get 1 stack of shadow embrace) haunt, ua, immo, corr, coa, sl, sb, haunt, sb, ua, immo, lt/dp,
well, i've only been in MC and kara with my guild since 3.0.2. they're pretty much all t4-5 and, overall, i was at the top of the meter by a good 4%. individual fights i was always on the top 3.
armory doesn't seem to work for me right now but i suggest just keep tweaking.
Did a Kara badge run last night with three Warlocks (each of a different spec), and I gotta say, we kicked major ass in record time. We had two good tanks, two good healers and more Warlocky DPS than we knew what to do with (including a level 69 Destro) ... now I know they "dumbed down" Kara a little bit, but still except for the Dragon, we had no problems at all. The mobs were like speed bumps and the other Bosses were barely stop signs.
I have noticed my damage in the BGs isn't what it used to be, but as a 100% Affliction Lock, I don't feel like I've lost all that much. I pop my DoTs, I send in the Pet, I hide behind some Tanks and things die. I *do* hate the Abyssal Shard nerf - I never realized how much I used it until it was gone.
That said, I'm sticking with Lock for now.
it's not easy or fun to do any kind of decent dps as affliction right now. i'll get my first solid sunwell run on tuesday as affliction, but i'd been doing pugs of all sorts of different things over the past week. i've had the benefit of getting used to it running naxx on a premade in the beta, though, so that helps.
most people would tell you to drop immolate because it's one of the weaker dots, however, that doesn't solve the problem since immolate and UA are always cast together, so they are like one dot basically.
try switching to curse of doom instead of agony. also remember your felhunter can count for upwards of 150-200 of your dps. and if you're REALLY having a hard time, drop siphon life for now. you'll want to add it back in later, but you can get your feet wet and start to get a rhythm as best you can.
Well, in higher end raid instances, the loss of lock dps is very evident. Mine went from about 1800 unbuffed to 1200-1300....but then again, I was ua/sl in pvp gear when i did that. Have to try out destro again.
Very helpful, thanks!
Does anyone have dps numbers for Dr. Boom or something similar, without raid buffs? I'm not sure if 1,200 was poor for a warlock in t5/badge/equivalents, and I fear for my raid spot if other locks are blowing me out of the water (let alone the boomkin, ret, etc).
